This post is all about a new home checklist and everything you need when moving into your new home.
Are you moving into a new (or new to you) home soon and are wondering exactly what you will need? If so then you came to the perfect place because this new home checklist will tell you all the things you need as a new homeowner! Whether you are buying a brand-new home, buying a lived in but new-to-you home, or building a new home, this new home checklist will have all you need to know and do after being handed over the keys to your new place.

MOVE IN MUST DO’S
- Change all locks from previous owners
- Replace HVAC filters
- Have ductwork professionally cleaned
- Check for pests
- Set up all utilities
- Update your address with mail carrier
NEW HOME CHECKLIST | EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR YOUR NEW HOME OR APARTMENT
The first thing you will want to do before starting to move your things into your new home is give it a GOOD deep clean. Of course, if the home you are moving to is brand new and never lived in – then you don’t have to go as deep into cleaning as you would on a previously lived in home.
If you have the funds (but let’s be real not a lot of us do right after buying a house, ha) then hiring cleaners to clean your new home before moving in would be such a treat. But if you’re like most without that option and you’re the one who does the cleaning before moving in, you want to make sure you give it a good deep cleaning so that it’s ready for all your belongings!
DEEP CLEANING ESSENTIALS
Here is a list of things to do for deep cleaning before moving in your things:
- Disinfect all doorknobs and light switches
- Deep clean bathrooms
- Deep clean appliances
- Clean all windows and baseboards
- Sweep and mop all floors
- Vacuum all carpets
- Shampoo carpets (optional, if home is pre-owned)
- Dust and wipe down light fixtures
- Change air filter
Here is a list of cleaning items to take with you when cleaning your new home:
- Trash bags
- Paper towels
- Mop and bucket
- Broom and dustpan
- Vaccuum
- Gloves
- Cleaning Solutions
- Disinfectant wipes
- Glass cleaner for windows and mirrors
- Hand soap
- Cleaning rags
- Duster that expands to reach high places
I can promise you it feels SO much better cleaning and knowing everything is clean before moving anything into the home.
Once you have everything cleaned and everything moved in and unpacked (or somewhat unpacked ha), then you can focus on the fun part…which is decorating!!
Now let’s get into a checklist for your new home that helps you ensure you have everything you need!
I strongly suggest going through this post while taking inventory of what you already have. The things you don’t have, write down on paper so you know exactly what you need to get.
Most people will already have a lot of essential items from their previous home, but maybe you are moving out on your own for the very first time and you have nothing. If so, don’t worry girl-I got you!
Buying all new things for a new house can be EXPENSIVE so I recommend getting the things you don’t have that is an absolute necessity first and then gradually getting everything else.
