When I moved into my new home and needed to find barstools for my kitchen bar, I’ll be honest and say I was a little dumb, haha. Meaning that I went and bought the first bar stool that I saw online all because I didn’t realize the research you should actually do before buying bar stools.
I did not even think about material or how easy to clean it would be with two kids (eeek). I absolutely love the look of the barstools I chose but really wish I would have put more thought into it before checking out. So let’s go over the TOP bar stools that are insanely good options for your kitchen (after I did lots of research!).
Bar Stool Dimensions…Super Important!
Before we get into the different kinds of bar stools, let’s talk about the most important part…bar stool dimensions. The dimensions are of course the most important thing when buying barstools because you’ve gotta make sure they fit in the space you need them for or else it’s pointless, ha.
Bar stools typically come in two main heights – counter height for standard kitchen counters, and bar height for taller bar-style surfaces. Choosing the wrong height can significantly impact the function of your stools, and not in a good way. So MAKE SURE you have measured 10 times and know the exact height you need for your bar stools!
Be sure to also consider the width of each bar stool and how many you can fit comfortably at your island or bar. To be on the safe side, I would say to go for about 5- 6 inches between each bar stool to keep it spacey and not too crowded!

These full back stools are perfect if you want a more comfortable stool for your space with more back and arm support. These come in other colors if white is something you can’t do right now (if you have littles that love to use anything as a napkin like mine do).
Another thing to consider with these types is how easy they will be to clean. I would definitely go with a leather option if you aren’t wanting to always be cleaning the material every time it gets messy.
Of course, cleaning any kind of fabric bar stools will be much more challenging than cleaning one that is just wooden or of another hard material. These give off such a luxury feel to a kitchen!

2. High Back with Gold Accent
I also LOVE the look and feel that these stools bring to a kitchen. I love the gold and white combo and feel like it gives off such a luxurious look! Especially if you already have gold accents in your kitchen, these would look perfectly in your kitchen.

Leather stools are a great option if you want the elegant look but also still want to be able to easily clean them. I feel like going with leather is the best of both worlds because you will still get the comfort and elegant look – while also being able to clean them easily.

4. High Back Whicker/Rattan
These woven rattan stools bring the perfect mix of natural texture and a warm feeling to a kitchen. These give off a costal feel but also look SO good in a modern kitchen..so these really are perfect!
Not sure about you, but I love a neutral bar stool especially in a white kitchen. I think it brings such warmth to it and pairs SO well! Plus, these still have good back support if that’s something you must have.

Even though these don’t offer as much leaning back support as the high backs do, they still offer support and are comfy! If you are really wanting a clean, modern look then these light wood stools would be a perfect fit! These have a lower back but still offer support and give off such a clean feel to a kitchen. The backs are curved to feel better on your back, so that’s a plus!

Ok so I absolutely love the way these barstools look in this kitchen. They bring warmth while also still looking elegant and classy. These may not be padded or as comfy as others I have listed, but these are SO easy to clean. Plus, these can easily be pushed under your bar or island when you want them to be! I truly love them.

Backless leather stools are another option for a bar or island that may have a more minimal space. If you want to push them under the bar or island, these are perfect for that. These stools are more on the casual side but definitely still make a kitchen look good!
Leather is so much easier to clean than cloth or another type of fabric, but if you aren’t a big fan of leather, there are lots of backless barstools in this style with other materials like velvet or a more cloth like fabric.
